@jarrod that looks epic, especially compared to the amount of snow we get here. Enjoy the day!

@withers very Australian indeed, I think Queenslanders and Tasmanians do it best though.

@patrickrhone Same here, the more disorder in the World, the more organised something becomes in our household. I’m currently re-organising and tidying my photo catalog and archives

@Mtt that’s a great looking theme, thanks for the ongoing contributions you make to the community. 👏

@manton I appreciate the way you’ve handled yourself publicly through this, and that you haven’t jumped into the cesspool of name calling and all the sorts of ways these things normally play out. Thank you for that.

@aeryn My unsolicited advice would be to not jump to change anything because of the pressure. Far too frequently that is what we do these days, we don’t give ourselves time to see the whole thing play out before making a final decision with all the evidence in front of us, or we’re having it skewed because the acceleration from 0 to Outrage is just so fast on the social web.

I tend to remove myself from the conversation and wait for it all to play out before I make the decision that is best for me.

@Miraz good luck for a quick and painless sales process.

@cheesemaker same here, put a fan or airconditioner on in the room and I really struggle to clearly hear what anyone is saying, I've also found out that I do not read lips remotely as well as I thought I would...

@withers I looked forward to welcoming back Tom as our new social overlord, then I remembered that News Corp bought them and was less enthused about having Rupert as a MySpace friend

@humdrum I like to see lots of the facets of the person's life on their primary blog / domain, so I'd argue against subdomains in that context. For me, subdomains are for the spinoff projects (before they require their own domain) or for keeping stuff personal and away / hidden from main domain.

@gregmorris the only shocking thing to me in that thread is how open he is about how bad he’s about to make meta, and how much he doesn’t care about what that looks like.

@pratik that thread by Zuck blows my mind, it reads like he’s been waiting to reveal that right wing side of himself, he’s definitely leaning in ready for a kiss from the incoming admin. And for me, it’s definitely time to delete my account from all meta products.

@jarrod yeh, I needed to do this earlier, it’s a bit of a hangover from my old work, a salesperson who doesn’t answer their comms promptly doesn’t sell a lot…but I’ve been retired the best part of 18 months now, so now I need to make sure I stick with this change!

  • Replying to: @jarrod

@jarrod I’m the VP and lead program coordinator at a football (⚽️) club, we use a particular app for our teams to self-manage a lot of their activity, and whilst it’s setup in a way where comms should be pretty simple and direct, not everyone uses it that way, nor are they respectful of other peoples availability.

Often there would be messages sent to the entire club when they should have been a direct message between the parent and the coach, for example. With everyone’s different work schedules, and therefore posting times, I was getting urgent notifications at all hours of the day and way more often than not, there’s was zero urgency for a reply.

As someone who has struggled with boundary setting, I let that invade my life and essentially, it’s all but led to a dislike of football, people, and that community. Whilst I can’t turf the app entirely, I’ve blocked all notifications from it, and have set a pretty hard schedule of when I will give it attention.

The other app is Facebook Messenger, our Executive have an ongoing chat, and again it’s about respecting other’s availability and boundary setting. I’m actively trying to move this chat to one of the Microsoft chat products as we have the full cloud suite and Microsoft allows you to set work hours and encourages the sender to think about sending out of hours messages, but I’m struggling to get the rest of the exec on board at this stage.

@jarrod I loathe notifications, there’s 2 in particular which are total triggers for me, so I turned them all off around the middle of 2024.

The other link is intriguing, as a reformed salesman I’ve used my Contacts app like a CRM for a while now, and whilst I also drop notes into my password app, I’ve never thought to put that much info in, but can definitely see the value in doing so.

    Good links! 👍

@skoobz Hi from Newcastle, Australia where it’s currently 31C and quite sunny. Normally, I’d be more than happy to swap our heat for your cold, but that’s just a wee bit too cold for me! 🥶

@val I’m not sure what I was expecting, but I was surprised by there being a shopping mall there, not to mention the Sketchers store.

  • @patrickrhone seems very mob like when you put it that way, though I’m thinking more Fat Tony than Frank Costello.
