⚽️ Strong result by Arsenal over West Ham in the EPL, conceding 2 wasn’t part of the plan, good to get the season back on track though! Back up to 2nd on the table, a draw between Liverpool and Man City would be ideal!

I’m hoping this rain forecast for today is wildly inaccurate! Eeek!

Weather forecast for Newcastle, Australia on the 30th of November, 2024

That’s approx. 2.5 inches for those in the USA.

Unsubscribed from another 45+ mailing lists, many of which I do not recall signing up to, a fair few from products I’m not remotely interested in, nor have ever purchased. Most respected the “unsub” but a few gave the “it can take 3 days for us to action this” response, which is a load of BS!

Flawed Decision Making

None of this passes the sniff test…

Thursday’s inquiry into the new laws ran for just three hours, with Australians given only a day to lodge submissions.

The government has said it will rely on some form of age-verification technology to implement the restrictions but the details are vague and the technology has not been finalised.

The onus will be on social media companies to add age-verification tools themselves.

The ban involves the highest age limit set by any country, and does not include exemptions for those with parental consent.

There will be no penalties for parents or children who ignore the rules.

I don’t understand why we are rushing this through? What is being hidden in the legislation? How will the age verification work? How can you determine that I am over the age of 16? Does this become a way to have a national ID system?

Lots of questions, absolutely no answers!

🔗 Australia approves social media ban

All these Black Friday sales emails makes it easy to unsubscribe from all the various mailing lists you’ve ended up on over the last 12 months. The standard “sorry to see you go” message feels disingenuous though, along with the exit poll asking why you’ve unsubscribed.

Australia’s Actual Deadliest Animal

NCIS found horses killed more people than any other animal in Australia and were responsible for more than 200 deaths over a two-decade period.

So we can now stop all the demonising of sharks, snakes, spiders, stonefish, jellyfish, the blue ring octopus, and all our other little Australian creatures… shit, we have a fair amount of deadly critters here!

PS. Daryl Braithwaite has got some explaining to do…

New Lambton Eagles’ pre-season training is in full swing. Gotta love that sunset lighting too!

A group of people are playing soccer during sunset.

Does anyone here have any experience with glass.photo, particularly compared to Flickr, and to a lesser degree Instagram? I’m looking for an active photography community, Flickr’s has seemingly died, Instagram’s is ok but I’m anti-Meta, please help? 📸

⚽️ Another solid result for Arsenal in the Champions League, keep ‘em coming lads!

⚽️ Love waking up to an Arsenal win!

Just because I like to do all the complex things at once. Not only am I in the process of moving my blog to micro.blog, I’m also de-Googling my life as much as I can. One of these 2 tasks is so much easier than the other…any guesses as to which one?

I’m in the process of moving all my internet ramblings back to micro.blog.

I’ll host my photo galleries and any video stuff on Flickr and link them, otherwise everything else will be posted and hosted here.

Alder Park Sports Club AGM

I’ve got my first AGM as Treasurer of Alder Park Sports Club this morning, and whilst I’ll be delivering a positive report, my nerves are an absolute train wreck this morning…

Update:

Well that was a major non-event! To hold the meeting we needed to reach a quorum of 25 members, only 16 members showed, including 7 of 9 Board Members.

So now we reconvene next Sunday and as long as more than 2 people arrive, the meeting will go ahead.

I quite like edibles, gummies in particular. One takes the sharp edges off of daily life, two give a good nights sleep, and well three, three does something a bit more interesting… 😜

The cost of the costs is costly

Dental temptation…

You know you’re having a challenging day, amongst a challenging week, when you’re tempted to say yes to an offer of an earlier dentist appointment when they call you.

Life Membership at New Lambton Eagles Football Club

At New Lambton Eagles’ end of season presentation event yesterday, I was awarded Life Membership.

It’s brilliant to be recognised for the contribution I’ve made to the Club over the last 10 years. I think I’ve held just about every position in the Club, from when Travis was in MiniRoos in 2015 through to Under 15’s PYL now.

In that time I’ve been a Coach, Manager, Registrar, Groundsmen, Uniform Coordinator, Equipment Coordinator, Game Day Coordinator, Social Media Coordinator, Premier Youth League Boys Coordinator, Club Photographer, IT/IS Manager, and Vice President.

Crazy! 🤪

Looking forward, I’d like to keep doing the VP role for another year, along with having greater involvement in the NPL Men’s Program. We’ll see what shakes out at the AGM next month, which sort of times in with the new NPL Men’s squad’s first session.

Go the Eagles! 🦅

Safe Social Media & Kids

🔗 The Instagram Changes Are Not Enough

I think the solution to keep minors safe on social media requires a combination of social media companies, hardware companies, and parents.

It's easy to point the finger and demand a Government response to the growing issue of online safety for kids on social media, and of course they should play a part in it.

However, as we are the ones that buy our kids mobile devices that access these social media networks, we need to take responsibility and be the ones that are managing how our kids are accessing these ones.

I'm not kidding myself for one second thinking that our kids won't try and find a way around whatever restrictions we apply, but if we're not trying and we're just passing the buck, then what example are we setting for our kids.

Netflix has the worst volume differential between the dialogue and the music in their movies.

If you adjust the volume so the music doesn’t blow your ears out, you can’t hear the dialogue, so you turn it up and some more music plays and it’s loud as fuck!

Ugh I’m so old! 😜
