Some Thoughts On Using Facebook Again
Almost all of my friends are still on Facebook, and whilst I don’t want to use Facebook again, I can see some value in having an account there just to be able to communicate with friends.
I won’t publish anything to Facebook, directly or indirectly, nor will I crosspost from my blog to Facebook. This is not about gaining views or anything like that.
I’m wondering how minimal an account can be on Facebook, i.e. how much information will I have to provide Facebook. Can I simply provide an email address and password, or will they demand more…I know they want more, but what is the “minimum viable Facebook” configuration?
How much activity / tracking can I block? Can I make it so that I cannot be tagged in photos, posts, groups, etc. ?
What about the Facebook app, do I need it on my phone, or can I just use the web app? Does the web app allow you to block stuff, are its privacy settings comparable to the iOS version? If I do use the iOS app, can I block access to location, microphone, and other sensors?
I wish I had of given Facebook this much thought before I used it previously, hindsight is 20/20, of course.
I’m still not entirely convinced that this is a good idea…

I love a good Skandi crime show, I’ve heard that Case is quite good.
It occurs to me that my problem with web/social browsing isn’t that the content I read is bad, but that I’m stuffing my brain full of other people’s thoughts all day.

We went through something similar in Australia recently with our National Broadband Network (NBN) build, to say that it was an almighty cock up is an understatement.
Not only did the build budget blow out massively, and it is still not completed. In areas where it has been completed, customer satisfaction is low, just like the network speeds, in many cases the NBN is slower than the network it replaced.
If the Government wants to build this sort of infrastructure, it needs to be a non-political build, i.e. don’t make it a campaign issue. Internet access should be considered a standard utility just like electricity.

I’m in the final stretch of our football club’s registration period, just got to organise some info to go out to the existing coaches and managers. I’ve registered, and placed in teams, about 650 players. Looking forward to it being over, my RSI is playing up from all the typing!
I’ve been using Duck Duck Go as my search engine for the last 4 weeks, I’ll be honest, I can’t see myself using it for much longer. I just don’t like the look and ‘feel’ of it.
