    πŸ‘Έ

    Oooh, new season!

πŸ“Ί Watching Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities (TV Series 2022)

I love a good anthology series!

    πŸ“Ί Love Death + Robots

A collection of animated short stories that span various genres including science fiction, fantasy, horror and comedy.

    New Season! πŸ™Œ

πŸ“Ί The Great North has been one of my favourite discoveries this year, super funny, really dry humour, and quite weird.

    And there’s 5 seasons of it! 🐻

πŸ“Ί Loved the second season of Andor! I think I’m going to rewatch it from the very first episode through Rogue One seeing as that portion of the arc is pretty much complete now.

    πŸŽ₯ Watched: The Killing Game

When a hitman is diagnosed with a terminal illness, he decides to take a hit out on himself. But when the very hitmen he hired also target his ex-girlfriend, he must fend off an army of assassin colleagues.

Not a bad movie, full of all the cliches you’d expect from the genre, kind of a fun β€œJohn Wick” vibe.

    πŸŽ₯ Watching: MaXXXine

In 1980s Hollywood adult film star and aspiring actress Maxine Minx finally gets her big break. But as a mysterious killer stalks the starlets of Hollywood, a trail of blood threatens to reveal her sinister past.

There’s a certain weirdness and awkwardness that Mia Goth brings to her roles that works quite well for the characters she tends plays.

    πŸŽ₯ Watching: Sicario

An idealistic FBI agent is enlisted by a government task force to aid in the escalating war against drugs at the border area between the U.S. and Mexico.

πŸ“Ί Just finished season one of The Gentlemen

When aristocratic Eddie inherits the family estate he discovers that it’s home to a huge weed empire and its proprietors aren’t going anywhere.

Enjoyed it more than I thought I would.

πŸ“Ί Favourite TV shows from 2024

    There’s were plenty of good TV shows released last year, here’s a list of my favourites in no particular order;

    Shōgun

When a mysterious European ship is found marooned in a nearby Japanese fishing village, Lord Yoshii Toranaga discovers secrets that could tip the scales of power and devastate his enemies.

    The Penguin

Following the events of The Batman (2022), Oz Cobb, a.k.a. the Penguin, makes a play to seize the reins of the crime world in Gotham.

    Secret Level

Original stories set within the worlds of iconic video games are featured in this animated anthology series.

    Black Doves

Helen embarks on a passionate affair with a man who has no idea what her secret identity is.

    The Day of The Jackal

The Jackal is an elusive assassin who makes his living carrying out hits for the highest fee.

    Slow Horses - Season 2

Follows a team of British intelligence agents who serve as a dumping ground department of MI5 due to their career-ending mistakes.

    Hysteria

Follows a struggling high school heavy metal band of outcasts who use the town’s sudden interest in the occult to start a reputation as a Satanic metal band, until a strange series of events triggers a witch hunt that leads back to them.

Honourable mentions go to Fake, Creature Commandos, The Agency, Twilight Of The Gods, Landman and The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy.

For reference, here’s a list of the TV shows released in 2024 on IMDB.

πŸŽ₯ Watching: Mad Max: Fury Road

    πŸ’€

    πŸŽ₯ Watched: Longlegs (2024)

FBI Agent Lee Harker is a gifted new recruit assigned to the unsolved case of an elusive serial killer. As the case takes complex turns, unearthing evidence of the occult, Harker discovers a personal connection to the merciless killer and must race against time to stop him before he claims the lives of another innocent family.

Kinda meh, despite Nicholas Cage being quite creepy as the killer. 2/5

    πŸ“Ί Started Watching: La Palma

A Norwegian family vacationing in La Palma faces chaos when a researcher discovers imminent volcanic eruption signs that could trigger a massive tsunami.

    πŸŒ‹

    πŸ“Ί Watching: Secret Level

Original stories set within the worlds of iconic video games are featured in this animated anthology series.

From the creators of Love, Death & Robots. Very good!

πŸŽ₯ Watching: The Dead Don’t Die

The focus is on the sleepy small town of Centerville where the dead become undead.

A dark and dry comedy zombie movie with an absolute stellar cast, including Bill Murray, Adam Driver, Chloe Sevigny, Danny Glover, Steve Buscemi, Tilda Swinton, Tom Waits, Iggy Pop, and Selena Gomez.

    πŸ§Ÿβ€β™‚οΈ

πŸ“Ί Couple of episodes in and I’m quite enjoying Landman.

πŸŽ₯ Watched: Woman Of The Hour

Sheryl Bradshaw, a single woman looking for a suitor on a hit 1970s TV show, chooses charming bachelor Rodney Alcala, unaware that, behind the man’s gentle facade, he hides a deadly secret.

Bit of a different take on the 70’s era serial killer movie genre. Takes a while for the story to ramp up, but is decent overall.

    3.5 / 5

πŸ“Ί Wow, the pilot for Matlock is just terrible. And the reveal… Hopefully it’s just a β€œpilot” issue.

    πŸ“Ί Watching: Starting 5

    πŸ“Ί Watching Starting 5

Five NBA superstars' journeys during the 2023-24 season. Their on-court battles, injury struggles, and efforts to balance family life and cementing their legacies.

Pretty good documentary series out now on Netflix.

πŸŽ₯ Watched: Leave the World Behind

A family's getaway to a luxurious rental home takes an ominous turn when a cyberattack knocks out their devices, and two strangers appear at their door.
Leave the World Behind on IMDB

Netflix has the worst volume differential between the dialogue and the music in their movies.

If you adjust the volume so the music doesn’t blow your ears out, you can’t hear the dialogue, so you turn it up and some more music plays and it’s loud as fuck!

    Ugh I’m so old! 😜

πŸŽ₯ Watching: Hot Tub Time Machine

Rob Corddry is so funny, absolute classic!

A malfunctioning time machine at a ski resort takes a man back to 1986 with his two friends and nephew, where they must relive a fateful night and not change anything to make sure the nephew is born.
Hot Tub Time Machine on IMDB.

    πŸŽ₯ Watching: Sucker Punch

Haven’t watched this movie in a while, came up as a suggestion on Binge so I figured why not.

A young girl institutionalized by her abusive stepfather retreats to an alternative reality as a coping strategy and envisions a plan to help her escape.
    Sucker Punch on IMDB

    πŸŽ₯ Watching: Deadpool & Wolverine

    Great movie, love it!

Deadpool is offered a place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe by the Time Variance Authority, but instead recruits a variant of Wolverine to save his universe from extinction.

    Deadpool & Wolverine on IMDB
