Life

I made a Pork & Holy Basil Stir-fry (Pad Kra Pao) for dinner tonight, quick and simple to make, and super tasty! 😋

I’m going to add a Projects page to my website to keep track of all the projects I work on around home. Nice to have something to reflect back on when my brain goes off to that funny place where I feel like I’ve not contributed enough or not completed enough things.

I’m hoping that when the calendar ticks over to January 1st that my health, energy, and emotion bars all refill automatically…that’s how the game of life works now, right?

A black and white dog is lying on its back on a brown leather couch, appearing relaxed. It has its paws up and eyes closed, next to a yellow toy.

Upside down Zelda. Must be a tough life. 😜

Thinking of building out a small, dare I say micro, website for the social golf club I play in. Tech wise, it needs to hold the season calendar, links to the courses we’re playing, the winners of each grade when we play, links to sponsors, and contact info. micro.blog looks a likely option. 🤔

⛳️ Played Merewether Golf Course this morning with a couple of mates. Didn’t hit them super well, but still shot better than my handicap, managed a couple of pars, as well as a birdie on one of the Par 3’s.

A golf scorecard displays player Mathew Packer's total score of 91 with details on fairways hit, greens in regulation, and number of putts.

⚽️ Don’t mind waking up and seeing that Manchester United, Manchester City, and Tottenham, all lost their games in the English Premier League overnight. Better if Chelsea and Liverpool were also on that list, but beggars can’t be choosers.

I’ve hit peak burnout, and peak frustration, so I’m tapping out on the rest of the year. So much of my time is chewed up volunteering, it used to be rewarding, but now I’m the default person that everyone goes to it’s become a 7 days a week thing, that’s not fair or remotely equitable.

It’s Fishing & Crabbing We Go, Sea Shanty

When your wife challenges you to write a sea shanty after seeing your shared calendar notification, you take that challenge…and then maybe you cheat a little a use ChatGPT because after all, you’re not a song writer 😜

    🎣 🦀

Hi ho, hi ho, it’s fishing and crabbing we go, With nets in hand, we’ll scour the sand, Hi ho, hi ho!

Hi ho, hi ho, the tides they ebb and flow, We’ll cast our lines and haul the brines, For fishing and crabbing we go!

The salty breeze, it fills the seas, Our traps and bait below, We’ll fill the hold with tales untold, From fishing and crabbing we go!

Hi ho, hi ho, it’s fishing and crabbing we go, The ocean’s call, we’ll heed it all, Hi ho, hi ho!

    The Week Ahead

Looks to be pretty busy, but shouldn’t be too stressful if things go to plan. 🤞

Monday - finish clearing the garage and make a couple of tip runs

Tuesday - setup golf sim in the garage, football meeting at 5pm, sports club board meeting at 6pm

Wednesday - take the boat out on Lake Macquarie, try to catch some fish and crabs for Sunday BBQ

    Thursday - same as Wednesday

Friday - same as Wednesday, if I haven’t caught enough for the Sunday BBQ, otherwise play some golf

    Saturday - no plans

Sunday - early trial match between between my sons team and Singleton Under 18’s, then family Christmas BBQ

Plenty on, nothing stressful, let’s go!

Annoying Monday morning issue, my son’s bike has a slow leak in the rear tire, seemingly takes 8-10 hours to go down…so in theory, if I pump it up now before he goes to school, it should stay up enough to get him home in 7 hours 🤷‍♂️

    This pair… 🤷‍♂️🤪

Might be time to increase the dosage of my ADHD meds, finding them less effective currently and have been on the same dosage for a couple of months now.

⚽️ Strong result by Arsenal over West Ham in the EPL, conceding 2 wasn’t part of the plan, good to get the season back on track though! Back up to 2nd on the table, a draw between Liverpool and Man City would be ideal!

I’m hoping this rain forecast for today is wildly inaccurate! Eeek!

Weather forecast for Newcastle, Australia on the 30th of November, 2024

That’s approx. 2.5 inches for those in the USA.

Unsubscribed from another 45+ mailing lists, many of which I do not recall signing up to, a fair few from products I’m not remotely interested in, nor have ever purchased. Most respected the “unsub” but a few gave the “it can take 3 days for us to action this” response, which is a load of BS!

All these Black Friday sales emails makes it easy to unsubscribe from all the various mailing lists you’ve ended up on over the last 12 months. The standard “sorry to see you go” message feels disingenuous though, along with the exit poll asking why you’ve unsubscribed.

⚽️ Love waking up to an Arsenal win!

Just because I like to do all the complex things at once. Not only am I in the process of moving my blog to micro.blog, I’m also de-Googling my life as much as I can. One of these 2 tasks is so much easier than the other…any guesses as to which one?

    Alder Park Sports Club AGM

I’ve got my first AGM as Treasurer of Alder Park Sports Club this morning, and whilst I’ll be delivering a positive report, my nerves are an absolute train wreck this morning…

    Update:

Well that was a major non-event! To hold the meeting we needed to reach a quorum of 25 members, only 16 members showed, including 7 of 9 Board Members.

So now we reconvene next Sunday and as long as more than 2 people arrive, the meeting will go ahead.

    Dental temptation…

You know you’re having a challenging day, amongst a challenging week, when you’re tempted to say yes to an offer of an earlier dentist appointment when they call you.

Life Membership at New Lambton Eagles Football Club

At New Lambton Eagles’ end of season presentation event yesterday, I was awarded Life Membership.

It’s brilliant to be recognised for the contribution I’ve made to the Club over the last 10 years. I think I’ve held just about every position in the Club, from when Travis was in MiniRoos in 2015 through to Under 15’s PYL now.

In that time I’ve been a Coach, Manager, Registrar, Groundsmen, Uniform Coordinator, Equipment Coordinator, Game Day Coordinator, Social Media Coordinator, Premier Youth League Boys Coordinator, Club Photographer, IT/IS Manager, and Vice President.

    Crazy! 🤪

Looking forward, I’d like to keep doing the VP role for another year, along with having greater involvement in the NPL Men’s Program. We’ll see what shakes out at the AGM next month, which sort of times in with the new NPL Men’s squad’s first session.

    Go the Eagles! 🦅

🎥 Watched: Leave the World Behind

A family's getaway to a luxurious rental home takes an ominous turn when a cyberattack knocks out their devices, and two strangers appear at their door.
Leave the World Behind on IMDB

Netflix has the worst volume differential between the dialogue and the music in their movies.

If you adjust the volume so the music doesn’t blow your ears out, you can’t hear the dialogue, so you turn it up and some more music plays and it’s loud as fuck!

    Ugh I’m so old! 😜

    ⚽️ Arsenal 4 - 2 Leicester

Good win by The Arsenal over Leicester last night, especially with Manchester City drawing with Newcastle!

    Green Day in Sydney

Green Day in Sydney for $500 – is dynamic pricing reserving live music for the rich?

Showing my age here, and then some, when I first saw Green Day way back in about 1996 at the Hordern Pavilion I paid about $25 for the ticket!
